Folio (279 x 184 mm). 18 engraved plates, maps and plans (10 folding, 1 with hand-coloring). Modern half morocco and marbled boards. Margins trimmed, worming in quires R through U with losses, one plate lacking half of image and mounted as a single-page plate, repaired tears to some plates, repaired tear at bottom edge of M3 into text, light dampstaining and browning.

FIRST EDITION of this account of a diplomatic mission to Moscow on behalf of Emperor Leopold I, written by a secretary to the delegation. It includes a description and illustration of the suppression of the Strelzy uprising of 1698/1699, including the executions that followed. Because of the cruelty of Peter the Great\’s response to the uprising, and Korb\’s factual presentation of it, the book was suppressed in 1702 under pressure from the Tsar\’s government.
